How Do Rifle Scopes and RED DOT SIGHTS Work

Rifle scopes have three key aspects to function well, and the first is work as a telescope, magnifying the image of a distant object so that it is easier to see. Refracting telescopes use lenses to gather light and magnify the object, and most rifle scopes are based on the venerable Galilean or Keplerian model. Both of them use a convex objective lens. The Keplerian pair uses a convex eyepiece, while the Galilean uses a concave eyepiece. The Keplerian model has a wider field of vision, but turns the image upside down. Nearly all rifle scopes have adjustable magnification settings, called "powers," which rotated stronger or weaker lenses into place to alter image magnification.
For some hunters ignore the binoculars as one of the hunting equipment in his arsenal. obviously, binoculars are slao important to big woods hunters with less than 100yards of visibility.
When choosing a pair of binoculars, there are two numbers that should considered, for example, 7x50. In this case, the 7 is the magnification or power, in other words, this number means the image will appear 7 times larger than with the naked eyes. Open country hunters usually go with a magnification of 10, 12 or more. Higher powered binoculars do not means the best. Renember, as magnification increases, steadiness becomes increasingly important, light is also reduced at higher magnification.
The second number is the objective lens. In simple terms, it is the diameter of the lens in millimeters. The higher you go, the bigger the lens. Larger lenses have wider fields of view and allow more light into the fram. So, a pair of binoculars with a larger objective lens is better in low light conditions.
In the field, it is time to put those binoculars to use. Whether youâEUR(TM)re looking over vast amounts of prairie or 100 yards of tag alder swamp, the best way to spot deer is to glass small chunks of territory and take your time. Most hunters like to scan the horizon with a long sweeping motion. If there is a deer walking through or standing out in the open, they will surely be spotted using this method. But old, wise deer donâEUR(TM)t spend a lot of time walking around in the open during daylight hours. Study small areas for thirty seconds to a minute while looking for antler flashes, glassy eyeballs, flicked tails, or ear movement. After youâEUR(TM)ve taken a close look, glance the periphery and pick out another small area to study.

Bullets do not fly in straight lines, and this is magnified over longer ranges. Even a low wind will blow a bullet off, and bullets will lose the momentum to the forces of aerodynamic drag and gravity, dropping as they fly. Most scopes equips with two knobs for adjusting the scope to account for these effects, and they are important for accurate, long range shooting. There is a horizontal control knob for windage, and vertical control knob for bullet drop. They will make minute adjustments to the model to compensate for these forces.
Red dot sights, are almost always zero power, or one power. Same thing. This means they do not magnify. A red dot sight is not for precision shooting, but rather very close or very fast shooting. Much of our military uses red dot sights on their small arms because the hit percentage is drastically higher than with iron sights. Competitive speed shooters also use red dots on their handguns for the same reason. The larger the dot, the quicker most people find they can find and shoot their target. Shot gunners are not left out either. A red dot is ideal for hunting turkey or deer, and some people even use red dots for target games like trap, skeet, and sporting clays.
